Questions

Asked before paying.

What happens if I stop paying?
Nothing happens to the notes on your devices. Every device keeps its full copy, fully editable. Syncing stops a few days after the paid period ends (3 days on the monthly plan, 14 on the yearly one), the app signs the account out and says why. If you subscribe again, everything you wrote in between syncs then. The encrypted copy on our servers is kept for at least 90 days after that and may be deleted at any time afterwards, with an email 30 days and 7 days beforehand; we never delete the copies on your devices.
Is there a limit?
On the number of notes and devices, no. On synced storage, yes: 1 GB, which is room for tens of thousands of notes and years of normal writing. A single note can be up to about 900 KB, which is roughly 150,000 words. Each month you can also upload 500 MB of version history to your account and publish 100 share links. If you need more storage, add 10 GB at a time, up to 50 GB extra, for $7 a month or $60 a year from the account page, and remove it whenever you like. The app shows how much you use. If the account fills up, nothing already synced is removed and editing never stops: new changes wait on your device until you free some space or add more.
Can my notes disappear without sync?
Yes. Without sync, this browser holds the only copy, and clearing browsing data deletes it. Some browsers also clear storage on their own, for example Safari when a site is not opened for a while. Install HushJot as an app and export a backup now and then (⌘J ⇧A); the app reminds you a few days in, then every 30 days. Sync is a second copy, not a backup, so the reminder shows on synced devices too.
Can I try sync before paying?
The local-only app is the trial: it is the same editor, the same encryption and the same speed. Sync itself has no trial, but the first fourteen days are covered by a no-questions refund.
How do refunds work?
Ask within fourteen days of a charge and you get all of it back, first payment or renewal. Details in the refund policy.
Who charges my card?
Paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record: it collects the payment, applies the right VAT or sales tax for your country, issues the invoice, and handles refunds. Your statement shows Paddle.
How do I cancel?
From the account page, or from the link in any receipt email. Cancelling stops the next charge; sync keeps working until the end of the period you paid for.
Is there a lifetime licence?
No. Sync is a service with a running cost, and a price that has to be paid once cannot promise one.
Why is the monthly price so much more per year?
Card fees have a fixed part, and on $5 it is about a sixth of the price. Yearly is cheaper for you and for us.
Can you reset my passphrase?
No, and that is the point. There is a recovery code, shown once when you create your vault. Lose both and the synced notes cannot be recovered by anyone. You can start over on the same account and plan, which erases the synced notes and creates a new vault. The security page explains why there is no reset link.
Does HushJot run the agent?
No. You run your own agent on your own computer; HushJot is where you write, answer and approve. The Agents page says what you need.
Do I need Sync to use it with an agent?
Yes. The command-line tool signs in to your account to fetch your notes; a local-only vault has no server to fetch from.
Can other apps use my HushJot account?
Yes, apps built on our open Rust SDK can sync your notes with Sync, encrypted the same way. It is a developer preview for now.
