HushJot

Markdown bold and italic. Asterisks.

One asterisk on each side for italic, two for bold, three for both. Underscores do the same, except in the middle of a word.

On the left, what you type. On the right, what you get. Every result here was rendered by HushJot itself.

Emphasis

Bold, italic, both

*italic*, **bold**, ***bold italic***

italic, bold, bold italic

Underscores

_italic_, __bold__, ___both___

italic, bold, both

The same result. Asterisks are the more common choice.

Inside a word

un*believ*able

file_name_here stays as it is

unbelievable

file_name_here stays as it is

Asterisks work mid-word; underscores don’t, so names like snake_case are safe.

Good to know

  • No space inside the markers: ** bold ** is not bold.
  • For a literal asterisk, escape it: \*.
  • In HushJot, ⌘B and ⌘I add or remove bold and italic; select text and type * to wrap it.
Questions

Bold and italic, answered.

How do I make text bold in Markdown?
Put two asterisks on each side: **bold**.
How do I make text italic?
Put one asterisk or one underscore on each side: *italic* or _italic_.
How do I underline text?
Markdown has no underline, because underlined text looks like a link. Use bold or italic, or a highlight where your app supports it.
