HushJot

Markdown headings. One # per level.

Start a line with # and a space for the biggest heading, ## for the next level down, and so on to ######. The space after the hashes matters.

On the left, what you type. On the right, what you get. Every result here was rendered by HushJot itself.

Six levels

# Heading 1
## Heading 2

Heading 3

Heading 4

Use one # heading per document, as its title, and don’t skip levels: screen readers navigate by them.

The underline syntax

Title

Subtitle

Title

Subtitle

Equals signs for level 1, dashes for level 2. Only those two levels.

Forget the space

#NotAHeading

# A heading

#NotAHeading

A heading

Without a space, most apps show the hash as text. HushJot reads #word as a tag.

Every heading gets an anchor: lower case, spaces become dashes.

A short ID that won’t change if you reword the heading. Supported by HushJot, Pandoc and many static site generators, not by GitHub.

Questions

Headings, answered.

How do I make a heading in Markdown?
Start the line with one to six # signs and a space: # Title, ## Section, ### Subsection.
Why isn’t my heading working?
The most common reason is a missing space after the hashes: #Title instead of # Title.
How do I link to a heading?
Use its anchor: [link](#my-heading) for ## My Heading.
Is there a shortcut?
In HushJot, ⌘⌥1 to ⌘⌥6 (Ctrl+Alt on Windows and Linux) turns the line into a heading of that level.

Write it, see it, keep it private.
